Yesterday I spent the day looking at Save The Date cards for some clients getting married next year. They are getting married at a popular time of the year so we wanted to be sure that no one booked holidays or anything before it was too late.

When looking at Save The Date cards I mentioned to my clients that they can either use cards that are going to be the same as the invites themselves or they could go completely random - up to them. It got me thinking though about how important is co-ordinating everything, do people expect it at weddings and can you go over the top?

Well I definitely think there is a very big danger of brides getting Co-Ordinationitis! This is a very real problem and I've seen it at weddings many times, for example having absolutely everything heart shaped or initialled, or having the colour theme absolutely everywhere - one bride even wanted co-ordinating loo roll in the toilets! I think that may be just going a little too far! lol
If you are starting to wonder whether you have a little too much of one colour then I think its probably safe to say you have too much so may be time to tone down a little.

There is a lot said for being fairly random - it keeps the guests guessing and also enables you to be able to have a wider choice range about things. I'm a big fan of Sex and the City and one thing I really loved in the film about the wedding that never happened (sorry if I've given the plot away and you haven't seen it!) was that the 3 bridesmaids all wore different dresses and different colours - did it look weird? NO - it looked FAB!

I've done weddings before where the bridesmaids have all worn different colour dresses and it looked wonderful. We didn't stop there though - the seating was on tables of 8 and the bows on the chairs were 8 different colours. The whole day was colourful, vibrant and of course very different - everyone loved it!

So once again, the moral to my story is - dare to be different, think outside of the box and dont be afraid to not follow the crowd - you're guests will love you for it!

What Makes a Fabulous Wedding Venue?

Lately I've been looking at so many wedding venues for couple getting married next year and even looked at one that was currently in the process of being built in Nottinghamshire. It got me wondering about what makes that perfect wedding venue - is it the way it looks, the way it feels, the accommodation, the garden, the decor? What makes a couple chose one venue over another and is there such a thing as a perfect venue I wonder?

Of course one of the most important things you can look for in a venue is that you feel it fits with your own particular style and the style of the wedding you want, after all its pretty difficult to have a really contemporary, quirky and modern wedding in a 12th Century castle!

One of the things my clients consistently look for in a venue is the feeling that they can make the place their own for the time they are they, they want to be able to relax and wander around and they want their guests to be able to do the same without anyone looking over their shoulder and moaning about where they are putting their drink down or worrying about the furniture or paintings on the wall (it happens!).

I've found time after time that what makes a perfect venue is the flexibility of the staff and the owners. The venues that let you do what you want with the space, allow you to decorate how you want, allow you to use the suppliers that YOU want rather than the people they have financial deals with and the ones that of course make you feel like you are the only bride that has ever got married there - these venues are worth their weight in gold and they really are worth seeking out for that once in a lifetime day!
